TOKYO - Toshiba Corp. allegedly greater annual gain, followed by fever smartphones that have an impact on demand for memory chips to store data.
Japan-based company revealed it managed to achieve profits doubled until the end of 2010, thanks to sales of NAND flash memory and liquid-crystal display (LCD) usedin tablet computers and smartphones, including Apple's iPhone and iPad.
Toshiba reportedly received a net profit of 37.5 billion yen (USD456 million) during the three months ended December 31, 2010. Yet in the same period the previousyear, Toshiba only received 14.5 billion yen, according to disitat Reuters on Monday(1/31/2011).
Not only that, but even this figure exceeds previous estimates, which predicted onlyToshiba's profit reached 70 billion yen. No doubt, the company will increase net profitforecast of 70 billion yen to 100 billion yen.
Toshiba explained that their fourth-quarter profit increased, following the more demand for smartphones and tablet computers. The market for NAND flash chips tostore songs and photos on portable devices, could be increased to 18 percent this year, after last year reached 38 percent.
"Toshiba big gain from the expansion of tablets and smartphones. This is Toshiba'smain business and all went well,"said MFA Global Securities analyst, DavidRubenstein.
